A good one is over £100, a chepo one pehaps £65 give or take.

I find the 300 TDi is very damanding on batteries, the VM RRC had 2 batteries so i reckon the TDi only just copes.

Get a good branded one, it makes a massive difference.  On my sister's we have wired up a split charge system so that the second battery now runs the car etc and the cranking battery is only connected to the glow plugs and starter so that it's always fresh when it comes to starting.

Oh, check your oil, if it's too think you will find it cranks slower.

Pretty Easy to change the 300 starter even ive done 2 now

I found it easyer to take off the air box lid and pipe to see what I was doing and for access also took off the heat sheild from under the top right of the block cos i like the skin on me hands and didnt wanna risk it  :->  then its 2 bolts that hold it on with wires onto the bottom one and a  push connector onto the back of the smaller bit.

I paid roughly £120 with exchange from a local motor factor u could prob get cheaper online but i couldnt wait
