Title: Do I ring them or not ?
Post by: marjan on May 28, 2009, 20:21:24
Ok so here is my dilema.

I insured my Shogun with my Debit Card on 4th of April and recieved my confirmation and Certificate of insurance two days later. All ok thought I until I have just been doing the "family" books and I have discovered that they have not taken the payment of £296.55 from the card.

So seeing as I have a valid certificate of Insurance in my possession do I ring them or do I just keep my gob shut ?

You'll most likely find your not insured so I would ring them.

I'd agree with what Karlo said.
They may check find that no payment has been taken, void the policy and the next thing you know is that you get get pinged by Plod, they do checks, find that the insurance is void (as the company may not tell them why), you kiss good bye to your car and get a fine and points into the bargain.
The easier option? Tell them that the payment has been taken. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Im pretty certain   they would NOT void the policy without contacting you first !!!      i speak from experience thus in the last week my renewal came up for the transit and i accepted renewal with them       and told em i would issue a cheque for it         and 4 days later      there on the phone asking where the cheque has got to   Mark

Rung them last night and they are adamant that I have paid them and that the insurance is valid so I can't do any more than that can I ?

What? In this day and age? Not bloomin' likely! Misuse of Police databases is a sure way to lose your job, pension and spend two years inside picking up soap in the showers at one of Her Majesties Holiday Camps!

Google the ASKMID insurance data base and have a look.

I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate

But those tetra PDA's make it soooo easy for you to do (though can be extremely slow from what I hear)  :police: a tech savey matey managed to get tomtom on his and uses it for shouts  - I was wondering why they didn't put a nav system on them anyway.

No need to ask a copper to do you a cheque - you paid by card. The MID is the same one the Police use, so it'll be as good as anything - but carry your certificate just in case.

What might have happened is your payment is still pending, so it will go from your account at some point. You can ask your bank if you have any authorised payments awaiting payment.

HTH :)
