Title: Rev counter needle jumping around !
Post by: diff-breaker on May 31, 2009, 20:59:54
My Discovery 300tdi rev counter seems to have fits and intermittantly jumps around instead of a smooth up or down.
Has anyone got any suggestions why this could be ? Simple fix or auto electricain job ? Hope someone can  help.

Sounds like a faulty connection to the alternator..............check the connections and give it a squirt of WD40 thats what works for me

What a coincidence, I asked this question (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,70249.msg590496.html#msg590496) a few weeks ago.

I fixed it tonight by replacing the connector on the "W" terminal - grey/white wire. Works perfectly. Careful you don't chop off too much wire as it's quite short already.

Mine was playing up a while ago
Brand new female spade connector on the alternator soon fixed it

Way to go ! It never ceases to amaze me that I ask seemingly numpty questions and get sensible answers with no mickey takes !
Thanks for the responses -think this weekend will be spent playing under the bonnet and correcting my over-steering problem.

They arent numpty questions!

Not everyone is a mechanic so stuff like that which is simple to someone who knows about stuff, is not necessarily as simple to someone who doesnt!
