Just been to see a 1990 tdi disco with 90k on the clock and 12 months MOT.
Externally and internally it looks pretty mint, mechanically it seems fine too.
Only negative I could find anywhere was half an inch of rust under the bonnet between the horizontal and the vertical of the wing, there is evidence of this both sides but not holed through anywhere yet. Is this to be expected on every disco and should it put me off? Looks like it would be easy enough to cut out and weld an angle along the edge.
I'm scrapping my Rangie at the moment for various reasons but dont want to be in that position this time next year again!

yeah, thats common on them. look underneath the boot carpet at the floor ands see what thats like too, aswell as the sills.
also check the swivles and make sure the chrome asnt peeled.

sounds good to me, most of them by that age have had sills boot floor & inner wings welded, I've done loads for members now, as said by boss check the boot floor oh & inner rear arch's as well
hope that helps

if the wheel arches are no good then dont worry becasue im cutting the ones out of mine(rear#) more than welcome to have them if it means you can argue the price of a car down ;)

Rear looks spot on, just a bit of rust in the fronts, but not much.
Thanks for the offer though Boss!
I just need to stip the rangie and sell the bits quick sharp now!

Also check the front footwells where the mudguard bracket is bolted through the floor, its fairly common for them to rust through there as well, and it can be a right pain to weld depending on how bad it is.

Cheers everyone - I didn't get the one I looked at in the end, it went for slightly over budget. I'm still on the look out for a bargain though! 8-[
