Anybody any experience of the diff lock drain plug.
Thinking of buying one and want to know peoples experience of them.
Are they easy to use,
Do they clog up,
Any issues with them leaking and letting oil go,
Do they snag when off roading
In particular I would like to know if I have to buy the hose to use it. It looks like any old bit of hose with a clip on - Like the idea of the drain plug, but am put off by having to buy a hose as well?

I've been using one for over two years now.
Really useful bit of kit, very secure and no leaks, once installed you don't even need a spanner to change the oil, just undo the knurled cover and screw on the pipe, no mess all over the steering bars or on the floor. It isn't any lower than the original bung and you are going to hit other stuff under there long before you hit the drain plug.
You'll need the hose with its screw on piece to release the valve in the drain plug otherwise the oil won't drain out.
Another tip when changing your filter is to spin it off into a carrier bag then you don't get oil all down your arm and again no mess anywhere else under the car.

I was all set to get one, but have come across the Fumoto oil drain value, so am undecided which to go for

I don't like the idea of using a lever if the lever is not removable - could easily get knocked or damaged some of the places we drive our vehicles.
If you want to save a couple of quid you can buy your drain plug direct, cut out the middleman - but you'll need to sort your own bit of hosepipe and jubilee clip out ;)

which size? I tapped mine out last year but forgot the tread size.

According to the Fumoto site it's M14x1.5 but a phone call to them may be better than relying on internet speculation :grin:

Has anyone got alink to the Fumoto site, or is this the one you mean? I can't see any lever so am I being thick?
I thiNK £10 is a good price though so I want to order some. I understand there are 2 sizes on the 300TDi, one has a 17mm nut and one a 19mm nut, anyone worked out which these correspond to? or for the V8?
