Title: My Disco whines/whirrs like an electric milkfloat - Oh joy - Not!
Post by: auf_wiedersehen_pet on June 15, 2009, 21:01:51
It's developed the noise in the past few days - sounds like it's at the front of the engine bay.

It rises and falls with revs whether travelling or stationary, in gear or neutral.

Any ideas of where to start?

 :-k :-k

Maybe alternator bearings, try taking the belt off and run it up again

Thanks. Tried it and it made no difference - my money is now on the water pump.

I tried using the "screwdriver stethoscope technique" on the water pump - what a racket!

It has. I've got a water pump on order so I'll try that first.

Your motor looks smart - any bigger photos?
