Was wondering if anyone has done an engine swap into a 300 disco and fitted a more fuel efficient engine with better mpg?
-
What, better than the TDi? can't imagine you'd save a lot unbless it was a much newer engine :-k

There is the "TGV" conversion (basically a 2.8 unit developed from the 300 TDI), I know someone who has one and is very impressed with it. Not cheap, but you supposedly get more power than a TD5 along with better economy and lower emissions. I would consider one if I had the money, but it's not top of my list.
Bear in mind that due to the weight and housebrick aerodynamics of a Disco you will never get a massive mpg improvement, especially if you want to be able to move faster than a snail with a limp...

I was 90% sure that there is nothing obviously better (or affordable) to replace the standard lump with but at the moment i'm getting about about 26mpg which is ok, but it's costing me £12 a day in diesel to get to work and back, it's certainly testing my love for the thing ;)

have you thought about bio
check the price locally
or have a go at making it yourself

You can get LPG conversions that will increase the burn efficiency of the TDI, but how long the payback will be I don't know.

Do you know who or where does it? will go and have a mooch on google
