any advice would be great thanks

Should be ok with tbox in neutral (between hi and low). Bear in mind any bits floating around in the diff.

you could always tke the props off, one has to come half off any way, I have towed autos before but only for a couple of mile & at very slow speeds ie:- below 20mph

For a "road" car I agree, however, Land Rovers are different. Because the transferbox is between the main gearbox and the axle, the tbox neutral provides a "cut-off", the same as taking a prop off, say, a transit van. Hence no need to take the props of a Landie. Of more concern is the damaged diff, which could lock-up if any broken bits get in the crown wheel and pinion.

IIRC LR advise not to tow any distance with an auto, the transfer box has an oil pump driven by the input. Given that towing one, pressumably by rope, is not an easy task and that you have to remove the parts anyway I'd suggest dropping the prop and pulling the halfshafts quickly then drive it there in difflock. Far safer in my opinion rovided it's not icy when you drive it.

be careful towing with a broken dif my friends blew aprt and the only thing that stopped the crown wheel from flying out and into my disco was the diff guard  scary stuff
