Title: origionality
Post by: lambert on July 03, 2009, 10:33:14
i know i am being a hypocrite with this question given my current wheels and tyres but.

with a 200 series disco did all the 3door cars come from the factory with body colour plastic wheel arch extensions or were they a factory option or a dealer accessory? i only ask as mine has some but they make it look bobins especialy from the back with the narrow tyres.

also do main dealers have the facillity to do a printout of the build details if you give them the vin number?

AFAIK the arches would have been an option not factory fitted.
As to the build details it's probably more down to whether the dealer keeps that level of record and for that length of time I guess, some may, some may not - ymmv!

The arches look better painted black..

I've never seen colour matched ones . so I think someone must have asked for them...

when you look at them they can't have been cheep as the plastic is the same colour all the way through not painted to match hence thinking factory. i shall take one side off and post some pics when i get my tool kit back, see which is better.

As far as I can see from the publicity shots taken at the launch of the Discovery none of them were fitted with extensions - and they were all 3 door - so it must have been a factory option, or maybe an after-market special if it's colour coded. Arches only appear in the accessory brochure in black.

I doubt the dealers have access to that sort of information. You can get a full build spec from the Heritage Centre at Gaydon ... but it costs  :(
