Title: Torchwood
Post by: MudRat on July 08, 2009, 11:49:29
Never really watched it before (due to loathing Jon Barrowman), but a very good drama is unfurling this week,  :P

Like you, I've never seen it before. But the trailers looked great so I've watched the first two episodes. I'm hooked

And Eve is quite tasty! Sorry. Lowering the tone there

ah torchwood has always been pretty good until until the man on man scenes they love to put in makes me want to puke. Watch monday's show on iplayer this morning and the snog put me off my breakfast.

A bit far fetched "a bit far fetched i mean the ianto gets in a telehandler and knows how to drive it"

So a plot about aliens, a bloke who can regenerate and secret army units is fine, but some gay welsh bloke driving a telehandler is a step too far..........  :D

I like Torchwood, Gwen rocks.

only a few hours now until we see who the 456 are - but then we might not get to see tonight.

I think I know who it is, the pieces fit and it's the type of writing that R.Davies is known for.  I'm not one to post spoilers though in case I am right, so only click the link if you are interested in a 'theory'.

Oh, come on, a telehandler is not exactly the Space Shuttle, is it? Give anyone with 3 neurons a few minutes and they'll be able to do a lot of damage with it.

I never had any kind of training in telescopics, yet the first time I jumped into one it took me the best part of 5 minutes to figure it out.

I was a little shocked at their cunning plan...

Outing the government to get leverage was a smart move, but to stand infront of an alien and say "either stop it, or I'll tell my mummy" didn't really seem to be the best thought out response..  Surely something like "I'm from torchwood, now I want one of those really impressive guns that unit have had in the past, or maybe a rocket launcher" would have been more sensible...

Unless the plan was for Jack to repeatedly hurl his corpse at them till they got bored

Yeah, but Men In Black had US military funding, not UK funding

well I didn't really figure on Torchwood being killed off :(  It was a great episode, but I think that's probably the end of that one.  I wonder if there was a happy story ending where the boy lived and they went back to 'work'.

That would be Disney version?

As a bit of drama it highlights my thoughts that if a (our) future government ever turns non-benign how the military can be coerced to act against the civilian population.

There's no more going back to Torchwood.   :'(

They made Captain Jack a w**ker.  NOBODY can be liked after actions like his.
They've killed off Toshiko (get off, she's mine!).
They've killed off Owen.
They've killed off Ianto.
They've taken Gwen out of action.
They've destroyed the Torchwood hub.

Thanks guys.  The final episode had soooo much potential and you royally screwed it up!

"They made Captain Jack a w**ker.  NOBODY can be liked after actions like his."

Yet he still lives to fight another day...
He is/was The Face of Bo (spelling?) in Doctor Who,   but I agree probably not another Torchwood series.

Not sure about if its over or not, never say never. But it is unlinkley to be mostly the same.

Torchwood in Cardiff was Torchwood 2 so id guess there is scope for Torchwood 3

Dont forget that Martha Jones joined Torchwood adn was on holiday when all this happened (diddnt like her much in Dr Who but may be better in TW)
Louis Habbiba seemed to be in line for a Job
Re Jack, there is allways room for a "Dark" charactor in most sci-fi series so dont let the fact that he's off everyones babysitting list think they wont bring him back.
Also they could write in some new characters, hard to get a jack replacement being an indestructible time traveler, but making stuff up is what writers do?

After all they kill off the cast of spooks on a regular basis so its the concept not that characters that has the longevity.

Still no Gwen would be a real shame, she was a great character.

Davies said he has the fourth season mapped out already, and likely could go another six years beyond that. While it would be typical parlance to say that depends on whether or not the remaining actors will stick around, it seems the Who universe has a way of continuing on, even when there has been significant cast changes. So time will tell whether "Torchwood" has that same type of staying power as "Doctor Who."

Me??? 2??? Tha's a luxury, laddie!!!! We get along very well with just one, thank you very much. Us lorry drivers are not paid to think, after all :D

Bit of a disappointing finale, if you ask me. A lot of build up of the unbeatable enemy, and then all they need to do is relay their own weapon to them???

Aye and Jack can go off travelling round the universe to his hearts content without getting a day older until he feels "cleansed " or whatever and can then reappear in Cardiff the following day - after all he is good mates with a man who knows a thing or two about time travel.

I can't beleive the BBC will have killed off one of there big earners so easily - an no christmas special - Torchwood will be back.

Actually, Torchwood Cardiff was number 3.  Torchwood 1 was in London, Torchwood 2 in Glasgow, and Torchwood 3 in Cardiff.  There is also rumored to be a Torchwood 4, but it's location is unknown.  Torchwood India was closed by Captian Jack when the Raj was coming to an end and he didn't want alien technology falling into the wrong hands.

Martha worked for UNIT, not Torchwood.  Even when she appeared in Torchwood, she was on detachment from UNIT.

I think Johnson (the hard case MI5 agent who "killed" jack) would have been a better choice.

I suppose they could use Jack in his personal timeline before he did his "kill my Grandson" stunt.

I thought that that the part of Gwen was purposely written for whatever her name is.

Would seem odd to then write her out.

Someone didn't hear the  radio 4 torchwood the other day then - Torchwood india was kinda alive and well up till just recently - it'll be on the iplayer.

EDIT

Actually no it would appear that they are not - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/torchwood/download/

The Torchwood India in "Golden Age" is time locked in 1924.  It was an attempt by Eleanor to keep Torchwood India active.

I hope Torchwood does come back, but it's going to be difficult to get a great crew together.  In a way, the writers would be starting from scratch.
