As you all know, I'm not normally one to get all political , but this is I think is worthy of a perusal and possible signature.
I am not usually a reader of The Sun, but this is a link I have unashamedly blagged from another forum.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/campaigns/our_boys/2501548/Union-Flag-ban-is-defied-by-Heathrow-cops.html
On this page is the actual Badge 3rd one Down
http://www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk/SOSMerchandise.html
This article leads on to another linky type thing
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/PoliceUniform/
Needless to say, I have bought one of the badges in question, and will be placing it on my uniform and will then be waiting for someone to say something. Not that I want to cause problems, I might add! Much!:-'

Is the person that complained, been racist and therefore laible to arrest. After all it's the uk flag not just cross of st george. If gay badges are allowed then ther's a precedent for other badges.

Why dont they just pass and motion that the BNP will get elected at the next election and speed up the entire process of dividing the UK. We have totally lost all sense of constructive patriotism in this country and I am afraid of the consequences for normal tolerant people form all cultures.
What next "Welcome to Briton is offensive" why not "Welcome to culturally non-specific landmass 56, and yes we are very very sorry about the Empire, and very sorry to remind you about it by being sorry, sorry"
Signing post now.

I've said it before, but there really needs to be an attempt to reclaim the flag of St George and the Union flag from the extremists. We in Wales have managed to keep our flag as a symbol of pride rather than it being seen as an indication of ultra-nationalist thuggery, the same goes for Scotland.
The more moderate normal English people show some pride, the less we will all hear from the far right.

Very well said. I hate the fact that the George Cross in now often referred to as a "Football flag"

LSP i have to admit im not a big fan of plod but you've got my respect every time you make a post, the sense of fair play and common sense you show is a breath of fresh air in a cynical world. I've done my share in HM forces and the lads and lasses get my support every time no matter the conflict or who i upset while im doing it. How long do we in this nation have to apologise for the past,we ARE the greatest nation on this planet but we are not allowed to voice/display this for fear of racist taunts. I am English not british as the welsh are welsh and the scottish are scottish and i refuse to be labelled as british even though there is no white/english on any job/social application i have filled in.We are a castrated country, afraid of upsetting foreiegners on our shores or abroad. Petition signed and i've made another donation to the SOS. God save the Queen and bugg*r the consequences. Rant over(for now!!!)

Do we know who the 'top brass' is that have supposedly banned the flags for being offensive? Or is it actually a bit of a 'non-story' designed to stir up passions?
The quote from the paper is:
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said yesterday: "Dress code states only approved corporate badging may be used."
If the badge (or any other) is not part of the uniform then it shouldn't be worn. Police Officers can still support Help for Heroes without wearing a badge. They can also be proudly displayed on their civilian clothes.
I must admit, I'm a little sick of all these cause bands/ribbons/badges. Every five minutes there's a new genuinely worthy cause with all the latest regalia we can purchase and show what a caring person we are.
I wish more people would follow the lead of the good people of Wooton Bassett, quietly honouring our fallen heroes with grace and dignity and desperately trying to prevent it becoming a media circus.

I am ashamed to be an Immigration Officer. It just goes to show that you get pratts in every job. I am going to get one and wear it on my uniform, lets see if any one has a go!

My badge has arrived and is now on the uniform.
I tend to agree with some of what TBM has said, but for me it is a personal thing. My son served in several overseas theatres, and I have friends who are out there and others who are due to go out there.
I've seen officers that I work with displaying all sorts of badges and emblems for different charities, causes and beliefs. Some I don't personally agree with, others I do, but I have never complained about them, as I respect their thoughts and opinons in the matter in question.

I suspect that at the root of this it isn't what the badge is, but what the uniform is.
A lot of these cases about people not being allowed to display, e.g. a crucifix, is because the uniform rules do not allow visible necklaces of any kind. Where I've worn uniforms for work, there have been rules covering non-work insignia, badges, jewllery etc.
Makes a good headline though, and sells a lot of papers.
