Can a dump valve be fitted to my 200tdi
seen some for derv's on ebay is all :-k

well at the event over the weekend there was a 90 running a td5 engine with a dump valve on it but was running a big turbo aswell . . .
so im sure it can be done . ..
-
mike u have a pm buddy
simon
-
pm me, i know all, but have limited internet time on the phone.
-
could i have that pm aswell dude . . . and will it increase power ??
-
right, i got free internet now.
size of turbo doesnt comein to weather or not you can have one or not just on its effectiveness. TD5s run quite a large turbo and when you run extra boost the lag is awfull. 200/300 engines run a fairly small turbo which winds up alot quicker, not to say a dump valve wont work on one, i plan to get one.
and they can 100% work on diesels but you have to take the vaccume from the brake servo to acctuate it, where the egr sensoe comes from?
the only problem is that TDIs dont have an ecu to controle it so a seperate one must be installed for it. the place to get them from is "derv doctor" we have one on the td5 and it works very well......although it was around £200, lot of mula for what it does really.

cheers dude . . ill wait to fit a dumper then wen i get a bigger turbo for the old beast :-k
-
many thanx Boss
wud a 300tdi be better then?

it matters not weather its 200 or 300, you still need an ECU to controle it. there is no doubt that it works on a TD5 and it should work on a tdi but like i say the little turbo spins up quick anyway. so the little lag you get normally would go away.......or so is the theory. all i can say is try it. if it doesnt work well enough pm me and ill have it off of you :D
-
as far as i am aware a dump valve will do nothing on a 200 or 300 tdi,
a dump valve only works if there is a throttle butterfly in the inlet.
as the turbo is still pressurising when you take throttle off, the sudden stop of air flow will stall the turbo so a dump valve is put in to release the pressure so the turbo keeps spinning so you get power strait away, instead of waiting for it to spin up again
i may be talking total rubbish and i wait to be corrected but that is how i understand it

i would like to get this 100% clear
they DO work on diesels
you are right in what your saying ie, no butterfly blah blah......take vaccume blah blah, but they do work
when i next go over my dads ill make a video of one working on a TD5 disco including rev gauge and boost gauge footage.

i didnt say they dont work on diesels i know a couple of people with then on cars, just cant see it being any use on one with no butterfly will work on td5 as it has a butterfly as far as i know
-
now now boys calm down calm down (best scouse accent)
im not looking for boost gain or loss of lag just like the noise they make

oh dear . . . . thats bad . . . guna hear that coming out of a 1 ltr nova soon then
-
sorry, i had a long day so when you say
a dump valve will do nothing on a 200 or 300 tdi
i got a little angry becasue i have had this argument sooooooooooooooooo many times.
like i say i belive that if you order one for a TDI a box of tricks comes with it to activate it, you also have to take a vaccume pipe off of your brake servo.
and then as far as im aware it works.
generation-x
worth the cost just for the noise

You can get them to operate, with some extra kit, but there is no performance gain, they are purely for show.
As posted by whits, there is no throttle butterfly for the pressurised inlet gases to block up against when the throttle is closed and stall the turbo, so the turbo keeps on spinning, hence no gains. But they do sound good and are generally louder than petrol cars due to the higher pressures.

if your deep water wading wont it cause a problem?? :-k

they do work on diesels iv heard the one on bosses dads td5 when we were at bircham it sounds great so im guessing boss is right ind his dads truck is pretty nippy to so il go with boss on this one :D
