Title: logistics of getting to the MOT station
Post by: woody on July 16, 2009, 10:59:24
the disco has been SORN'd no MOT no insurance
how do i get it to the MOT station

my only ideas are
tow on a ridged bar
or hire a trailer to transport it to the MOT
what are the legalities of towing and insurance  would i be better hiring a trailer
what are my other options

You find a decent garage with MOT station where you can commission them to come collect and return your vehicle.

You either need to get them to collect as above, hire a trailer or just insure it and then you are allowed to drive it to a pre booked MOT without Tax or MOT.

Most insurance policies allow the addition of a Temporary Additional Vehicle (TED) for a very small charge or for free. You might be able to persuade someone who IS able to drive a manual to add your vehicle as a TED to their insurance (IIRC you can't do a TED for a third party to drive on your own insurance) so that they can legally drive it to the MOT station for you.

FYI a TED can be for a day, or a week or longer.

You can get a 1 day cover from several companies nowadays but I might suggest you find a local independant mechanic to take it in for you or find a garage that will collect for a small fee.  I have a couple of local ones who would but my mate is a tester so he takes the car for a pre-MOT then take it in and tests it for me.
