hi guys if i wanted to do a project doing a 90 could i use a disco or rrc chassis or has it gotta be defender chassis thx
-
Depends on what you want to build. Disco/RRC are 100 inch wheelbase, and you would now need an SVA if you were building a hybrid with Defender body panels on a Disco chassis (basically if you modify the chassis at all it will need an SVA - there are other reasons for needing one but that's a good rule of thumb).
You will find a lot less welding is needed with a Defender chassis as it will already have the right body mounts. If you want to build a 90 or 110 then it's not worth fiddling about, just buy the right chassis to begin with.
-
ok cheers for clearing that up i was curious as i want to do one from scrath just not sure about paying £1k for new chassis rather a donor cheap but they even seem to go for same price as one already working

Defender prices in this area are (or were) ridiculous. When I last looked you could buy a very tidy Disco 1 with a good trim level for the same or less than a rough ex-farm 90 in need of a lot of tidying up!
-
well i just seen a series 3 chassis and body, tdi engine has blown up for £100 and theres a v8 engine on a rrc classic chassis for £100 reckon it worth doing it that way and plonk it in or should i stick with a tdi engine

Someone once tried cross breeding Jeeps with old air craft metal in Anglesea.....they ended up with Land Rovers....

TDI will be simpler and cheaper, but if you like the V8 rumble then go for it

If it was good enough for the factory....
...... then again thewy were limited to less than 100 BHP, a decent V8 will double that.

never owned a zook but have driven them on holiday and been out laning with them in the group and have admired them as fun truck that are cheaply modified, and so light they bumble over mires easily. I have always secretly wanted one (same for a niva cossack)

my cousin likes the niva cossack to but he got v8 rrc, well i benn doing my research on the sj and landys and like you said they are cheap cheeful and great fun this made me laugh and sway my mind more to sj

Always been impressed with what they will do, they are very light compared to any LR so the lack of power is offset, plus the lightness avoids getting bogged down so much, again you need less power if you don't sink into so much mud. They only struggle when trying to recover another vehicle in my experience, so all in all a sensible option.
As is the Lada from what I hear.
