I've stuck a 300tdi engine into a N/A defender and have heard you can throw away the 300 loom and wire it in without the ECU
anyone know anything about this?

Was the 300tdi edc ?, if so you will need to put a non edc injection pump on, just done this to a Disco
-
its the pump with 3 wires going to the solenoid?

300TDI never had an ECU. it was almost the samer engine as the 200tdi with a few emission controls added.

Later type Disco's have if they have electronic diesel control (EDC) has an ecu tucked up in the driver footwell/A post, if it has 3 wires its for the immobiliser & possibly another 3 for the ERG
I have done this in one of my disco's it had EDC (with ecu) the engine I fitted in had the 3 wire pump, top wires are for the ERG & these can be ignored but the 3 on the back are the problem if they are there you may have to smash the immobiliser off,
Hope that helps

All sorted now thanks we threw away the whole 300tdi loom including the throttle position sensor on the pump, egr, ecu and all the other rubbish.
Then we fitted the n/a loom to the 300 engine only had to change a few connections for the alternator and water temp probe and fit a blank to the egr

Most of the electrcikery on the early 300 TDi is for EGR, including the top temp sensor and the throttle position sensor. If it were the later EDC engine you would have different injectors, one of which is electric too.

Um thanks?
