Ive just got hold of a new td5 alive mid silencer replacement pipe . when replacing do i need new gaskets for the joints or do i use exhaust paste stuff. Any advice would be much appreciated :)
-
There is only one gasket, between mid and rear section (joint with three nuts), replace if you can, but if not use old one with some paste on it.

Cheers for the advice  managed to get hold of one today . just got to fit it tomorrow night now :D

have you got nuts and bolts for the new pipe, as the studs in the original wont come out.

Yes, that would be a shame they do sound very nice. my vote dont bother with silencers at all. thats how mine will end up (straight through from the cat with side exit).

How does that stand when it comes to an mot

Passes
They only really test emmisions not noise levels.
All though you may find it a bit too noisey for everyday use.

Probably wouldnt hear it over the road noise from insa turbo special tracks :D

I put a sports utility on our 300 TDi and I notice it's a lot noisier now, no more economical though :?
-
Another vote for NO silencers, my 300tdi sounds great without them and side exit too

Can't really hear the exhaust over the tyes when cruising at 60mph.
