Title: Stainless steel mid pipe

Ive just got hold of a new td5 alive mid silencer replacement pipe . when replacing do i need new gaskets for the joints or do i use exhaust paste stuff. Any advice would be much appreciated  :)

There is only one gasket, between mid and rear section (joint with three nuts), replace if you can, but if not use old one with some paste on it.

ive just swopped mine on a tdci defender its the same exhaust from the cat back. i replaced the mid to rear gasket with the correct one its only a few pence.

Cheers for the advice  :clap: managed to get hold of one today . just got to fit it tomorrow night now  :D

have you got nuts and bolts for the new pipe, as the studs in the original wont come out.

Yep cheers for that advice i guessed i would as i had to hack saw three of them off. All fitted now and sounding good. Shame to put any silencer in at all :(

Yes, that would be a shame they do sound very nice. my vote dont bother with silencers at all. thats how mine will end up (straight through from the cat with side exit). :twisted:

They only really test emmisions not noise levels.

All though you may find it a bit too noisey for everyday use.

Probably wouldnt hear it over the road noise from insa turbo special tracks  :D

I put a sports utility on our 300 TDi and I notice it's a lot noisier now, no more economical though :?

Another vote for NO silencers, my 300tdi sounds great without them and side exit too  :twisted:

Hia, im getting rid of the mid silencer tomoz as my old mid box fell off yesterday hope it makes it sound noisier, will let you know.

I replaced the middle box to a straight through on the v8  :roll: It make so much noise now that i just turn the stereo up.  :lol:
