Just repainted shorty in Bonatti Grey - looks superb
BUT
I'm struggling to get a good shine on the paint (i've done 4 coats now)
I'm spraying thin paint abt 70% thinners, i've tried changing the ratio of air to mix and adjusting the fan but I just can't get a good enough shiney finish. I'm also worried when I come to put on the lacquer it may look a mess.
How many coats should I do of colour before spraying lacquer and how many coats of lacquer ?
Any advise most welcome.
Thanks

When we did Tigger, the proper shine didn't appear until after the lacquer went on. It was quite dull before that.
I seem to remember we put 3 coats of lacquer on it... but it was a while ago.

SORRY Didn't get back to you last night watched the match and fell asleap I take it you have all ready painted the base colour in celly if so you now need to wet flat that with 1000 grade wet and dry paper to give a flat finish and a key for the paint  after you have done that clean the paint down with panel wipe then with a tack rag then mix the colour bonatti gray 50 50 mix put one coat on then do a 70% thinner mix and try to put a nice light coat on leave for approx 30 mins then mix your lacquer max 10% thinners and apply 2 coats have a practice on a old panel it dos have a tendinsey to run like hell and good luck hope this as been some help

NO problem not getting back earlier, can't do much until saturday.
Thanks for the advise its really appreciated.
This is what I've done so far.
Original colour was white, so flatted that down and touched up dents etc. primed bare metal with etch primer followed by grey primer.
Then did 2 coats bonatti grey with approx 50/50 mix,
Then 2 coats about 30/70 bonatti grey/thinners.
I was going to flat down again and do another coat 30/70.
But from what you are saying I should do 2 more coats one 50/50 followed by one 30/70 mix. ?
The lacquer doesn't look thick enough to thin down it's already the consistency of water.
Panels have been wiped down between every coat and tac clothed.
Hopefully it will be with it when I've finished - never done any spraying before so fingers crossed.

yes the 50 50 mix is to put a bit of depth to it and cover the fine scratches from the wet flating and the 30 70 mix just help to get consistent finish and enhance the metallic finish, if the lacquer seems thin enough go with that, just take your time and you will be alright Its a great looking colour did a bottom half of a white disco in it and the mach 5s and did the bonnet to but without the lacquer to stop the glare reflecting of the bonnet looked really nice :)
