hi guys and girls,
i had moevment up and down when i jacked the disco up. so i thought the bearings have gone. so i got a bearing set and fitted them tonight.
i no the bearing seats things were in properly. but put it all back together and i still got up and down movement, what could it be how tight you suposed to do the main hub nuts
any help would be most greatfull
-
could it be the swivels?
-
how would i tell. and can i still drive it for now.
and how much do they cost, thanks
-
No, don't drive it until you ares ure, the swivle bearings are tiny things compared to the whell bearings and won't last long if they are running loose.
If the wheel wobbles the same amount fornt/back as it does top/bottom it's probably the wheel bearings, you might need to force the calliper pistons back and check this again.
If it wobbles differnelty top/bottom than front/back then look very closely at the swivle oil seal on the chrome ball, it would be leaking if the swivel bearnings had gone anyway.
Another telltale is if you have a mate rock the steering and feel the wheel for a knocking at the top (with it stood on the ground) or just lay undernath and watch whilst someone else goes to town shaking your wheels.

i allways tigten the first nut up tight as possible, slacken off then nip it up, then the second nut tight as possible. did 4 on the disco like this and my series had the same problem with the wobble as yours did, so i re tightened the bearing in this way and now its perfect.
hope that helps
