Title: 4L V8 Q's
Post by: SWEETY on September 05, 2009, 17:22:38
Hi guy's, I was wondering if you could give me some advise please :D
Been to look at a 2000 D2 V8 auto today, on the whole it looks a tidy motor with just the odd scratch & has 72K on the clock.  I notice an oil leak at the front of the engine which seems to becoming about 1/2 way up & was wondering if it could poss be one of the heads leaking :? the coolant did seem a bit low, there was no mayo under the oil filler cap but I'm not sure if there was a couple of water droplets (v/small) on the side of the filler tube :? Also when starting it up I heard the auto boxes oil slosh around & again whilst driving it, is this normal  it also seemed to take about 2 sec's for the kick down is this norm. I just don't want to spend good money on it then have to start repairs

The fluid sloshing around when you started it up is likely to be the heater matrix, particularly if it hasn't been used for a while. Mine does it when I start it up, you can hear the heater matrix gurgle.

Kick down should be instant, check the oil level.

Leaking oil on the front face of the block, dizzy O ring, valley gasket (inlet manifold galsket plus it covers the cam followers) or rocker gaksets.
