Title: TD5 Disco: Is this a blocked matrix?
Post by: fesuvious on September 13, 2009, 16:59:53
Righty, a continuation of the disco heater issues.

Engine, gets hot, radiator top hose hot

Feed to heater matrix from top hose.......COLD! well, tepid

Heaters in car, luke warm if that.

Matrix exit pipe, COLD.

Tried sticking hose on the exit pipe to 'backflush' the system but nothing happens and no water comes out.

Iv read that the heater controls only control flaps to direct the air around and there is no 'valve' controling the flow of water through the system.

So, Is it dash stripping time?

UPDATE

Matrix flushed in the direction of the flow
Have repeatedly ran her up to temp and bled it.

Head in the footwell, apply throttle, let throttle go and that gurgling bubbly noise is still there!!!!

She has a new rad, new thermostat. And still I can't solve it.

Should I be thinking about exhaust gasses getting into the coolant? Although in the coolant tank there are no signs I can see or smell

if it was exhaust gasses into the coolant there would be immense pressure in the coolant system and you would almost definately hear some air escaping from the expansion tank lid....

as for your problem.... if you have access to a compressor and airline you could try blasting some air into your matix pipes to see if that moves anything.

best i can do im afraid!! hope that helps!!
