Title: Front end knock

Hi,

On my 200Tdi Disco, I have recently noticed a faint knock and a coresponding thump through the brake pedal when braking. It seems to be coming from the front offside wheel, but I guess it could be from anywhere up front
 
When driving particularly gently, the knock doesn't happen, It's only when driven harder this seems to occur.
 
I have raised the front end and rocked each wheel in turn, and the offside seems to have slightly more play in it than the nearside, so I wondered if the wheel bearings need replacing, but I have no other clue as to what it can be.
 
I have also checked the underside for any loose parts, to no avail.
The Land Rover has covered 120,000 miles, So I guess anything is a possibility.
 
Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.

Might be worth a check of the front suspension bushes too.

I've had this, it gets worse when the brakes heat up with use right?  Could be that the disks are wearing slightly, if they are hong-kong fuey unbranded type and that the cast iron is not uniform.  Once the surface wears you get soft patches that don't wear evenly, so the disk feels warped in use.  There is no solution, chuck the disks.
