hi all, i have a 300tdi disco and have been told that the front and rear diffs are the same, is this right???? could i put a front diff in the rear axle??? many thanks

That is sort of correct, although you may find that the rear one has a different flange. 3 rather than 4 bolt. They can be interchanged with the correct spacer.

Front diff will have a 4 bolt flange which means you can change the rear prop to a 200 one and do away with the rubber donut.

And a 200tdi rear prop...

200's tend to be coarse splines, 300's fine splines.... but as others have said, the 300 disco rear diff is unique in having the rubber donut & three bolts.
If you switch to a 4-bolt flange (it's a kit from the major parts suppliers), you can use a 200tdi (or some Range Rover) rear propshaft :)

i think im right in saying that a front diff will spin the otherway to a rear one unless you flip it upside down.

Nope.... not an issue :)

Its not an issue at all, as i have ran the following set up in mine without any problems:
front axle with a front diff, rear axle with a front diff
front axle with a rear diff, rear axle with a front diff,
basically whatever diffs you have fitted , you have you will move forwards

thanks guys

There is no difference in the diff, its the wheel end of the shafts where the splines differ.
