Post by: Lewis.J.P_1987 on October 13, 2009, 20:47:26

Why do you want to go manual mate is there something wrong with ur auto box. Have u got it going yet mate. I cant think of much else really other than pedal box, clutch hydraulics, flywheel, gearbox maybe brake master cylinder not sure tho. What about props are they the same.

Still not running yet. I was just weighing up options, if I can’t get it started there’s a lump on eBay with a manual included. I’m rechecking the ignition timing tomorrow as I originally did it of the timing mark on the crank pulley, but just reading around on the net this can be off sometimes, so I shall take the spark plug out of no1 cylinder and bodge a screwdriver in there to confirm tdc, then start again. If it dont work im stumped for ideas why it wont fire.

I completely emptied the car today seats & everything. Got rid of most of the mud. I was just checking for rust. Which there isn’t any...? Ha ha!

:D Got it running! timing was out. I used old dizzy aswell in the end. It idles high around 2000rpm so thats either timing or the air bypass valve. Smoking like a beast though, Im hoping its the residual oil in the exhuast from the old engine. That or i got confused and refit the old engine after taking it out?

2000 rpm sounds like a stuck extra air valve, or a large air leak -clamp the hose going to the EAV and see if it goes to 'about normal', if it does you have found your problem ;)

if you are fitting the manual box then you will need the brass spigot ring in the end of the crankshaft

I find with mine the idle is about 1100rpm. If i lower the idle and put it into drive the revs drop and make it stall. What should a 3.5 v8 be idle @?

Mine sorted now it was the bypass valve. No smoke either thank god!

Got mine down to 800rpm which sounds right.

Sounds like your air bypass valve might be gummed up aswell.
