Yesterday I took not one, but two cars to my local garage for a few jobs.
Freelander needed new pads, golf needed starter motor replacing. I am new to that Garrage and was amazed that.
They had the parts when I arrived
They did the Golf in th moring and I was able to collect it at lunchtime and swap for the freelander
The freelander was done in the afternoon and ready to collect at 4pm
Both cars work
Both cost exactly what they said it would be.
This is a first for anyone other than the main dealer (who is very good, but expensive). Past excuses are.
Its not been on that ramps by 4.00pm
We cant get the parts (even had that form a Lotus main dealer!)
Our auto electrician is not in
Someones off sick
Its a difficult job
So thank god, I now can trust someone to work on my cars other than myself!

Did you by any chance happen to notice a flock of pigs flying past?

There are independent garages out there that have a clue and don't work in country time (where "tomorrow" means "you might get it back a week later if you're lucky").
I always find it a good sign if they're willing to listen to you, rather than just ignoring your diagnosis and repeatedly asking what the symptoms are. Main dealers seem prone to the latter approach - I guess it does make for a nice chunky labour bill if you can charge for spending ages finding the fault rather than checking in one place first...

The last independent garage I took the Golf too took 4 visits on a fault I said I thought was the EGR valve, gave up and sent it to my new friends and yep, it was the EGR valve. Wouldn't be that outrageous but the garage that cocked it up was voted independent garage of the year.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
