I have just noticed that my 96 Discovery XS is listing slightly (down on Drivers side) so is it a case of new springs or shocks or both, or is there a more common reason.
If it is springs and shocks, is it a hard job, and will i need spring compressors, i would be reluctant to put a lift kit on it as most places now have a 2.1 meter height restriction bar on the entrance to car park, supermarkets, etc around here.
I would value any tips or advise on what to buy and where the deals are.

The springs are now what... 13 years old? One assumes they are a little tired :)
4 new springs would probably not go amiss.
Replacing the dampers (shock-absorbers) would probably be worth doing, simply on the grounds that you have the things apart anyway.
Doing it
The way I do spring swaps is to jack the chassis up as high as I can, then lower the axle end as low as I can... you can get +2" springs in pretty easily this way.
Gas dampers are a pain though: because their nature is to go to full-length, the fronts are hard to get out.
Do an axle at a time, and you should be done in a couple of evenings :)

If it's been listinng for any time then the front radius arm bushes will have crept ie moved to take up the "list" and will now resist any atempt to level the car out. The fornt rad arm bushes were used to control the body roll and are reasoanably effective at it. The driver being on the RHS added to the natural torque effect on body lean always make UK market cars suffer worst. Parking facing uphill will exacerpate the situation.
Try swapping the front radius arms over.

Cheers for that, but it seems to have righted itself, i only noticed it once, so i'm sort of hoping it was on a camber that i never noticed.
