Title: Ranger MOT
Post by: muddyjames on November 06, 2009, 20:48:19
I cant say if it failed or passed I am affraid!

I arrived to be told that it doesnt need an mot yet. I argued it did as it is 1 month away from its registration date. Garage toldme being an 07 plate it doesnt need it yet. They miss read my number plate. It is L507 they saw the 5 as an S

Then they asked what its max laden weight was. I had no idea so they looked at the plate under the bonnett and found it to be 3020kg. the max weight they are allowed to test is 3000kg  so I am off to a Vauxhall dealer on Monday lunchtime who can do class 7 vehicles! Ah well. What ya get for buying a commercial vehicle really.

Nope, mines a transit @ 3200 kg  ;) the limit is 3000kg  ;)

Think there is a length restriction too, somewhere around 4 metres I think

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022514  class 7 is goods vehicles 3000kg to 3500kg DGW?

im sure that you should be able to get it done as a class 4, as thats what my 127 got done as (gvw3500kg), providing you take it to a garage that knows its stuff. we took it to a diffferent garage one year and they made all sorts of fuss, eventually takeing it to a different garage for a class 7. it failed and we took it for the retest at our useuall place, they tested it as a class 4, no problems.

In the end it is a class 4 as it is a multi purpose vehicle being the crew cab 5 seater!  It passed with a couple of silly advisories like no tow bar fitted. True, it is in the boot where light fingers cant get to it!

And as an added bonus it cost me £35  Thats £25 cheaper than my local garage and the testing place was a Vauxhall stealer!
