Hello
To cut a long story short one of the members of the CF owners club has had the missfortune to buy a camper with a few major problems.
Now one of the lads has offered to help and found an engine but its missing a starter motor, so have a root in the shed and see what you have please
Its a 4154 perkins diesel engine
Here is the full tale of woe

Thanks for your help
The donor engine now runs, just a small matter of fitting it.
Heres a link to the current bodged engine install.

Scary bodge job on that engine install  someone needs their butt kicked, including the MOT testing station.

Butt kicking is not enough....... make them drive it daily 'till it fails   why does everyone think they can weld ???

It failed soon after she bought it !
One of the lads in the club has kindly offered to sort it out for her.
He has the Perkins running now just a small matter of fitting it!

I cant agree with you enough , most people can make two bits of metal stick together & then think they are a welder , poor welding can & doe's kill 8-[ I have seen it in my profession when examining vehicle's after an accident, if you can't weld leave it to those of us who can & have qualifications to prove it.
How long would it taken before that engine cradle gave way & possibly broke the steering rack  if someone has put an mot on this vehicle they need reporting to VOSA & have there licence revoked.
John (a real welder)

Off topic but.......
A year or 2 ago I had to give agency workers a weld test. Was doing the usual fillet and butt weld test and two pieces of box in a 't' shape......
First managed to do the fillet an inch at a time (8" long) didnt bother with any more
second didnt know how the torch worked (mig) had only used stick welder :-. :-.
Third kinda welded the fillet, looked great but zero penetration
Then I went in the office and told them if they sent any more idiots, they could deal with them
We ended up doing 60+ hours a week to finish the job £££££'s overtime ;)
So my advice..... stick to what you know.......... bang in some overtime and pay a welder to weld ;)

They have bought a complete van as a donor and will fit the engine mounts and cross member from that, the old one will be scrapped, but the engine runs so I might post it in the for sale section for the owner.

Since reading this post I have noticed that outside a small unit behind the building supplies in Alfreton has 3 or 4 of these vans in various states of decay/repair :-k always liked them but cant have everything :(
