What are the things called that pre heat before you can start the engine??
Mine take about 35 seconds of holding before the engine will start when cold so am thinking they may need replacing??

Glow plugs
-
Yeah, thems the ones, cheers! lol
-
300tdi ? the light on dash has nothing in reality to what the glow plugs are actually doing. On 300tdi the power is still being fed to the glowplugs for x number of secs after the dash lamp actually extinguishes (Switch on the ignition and don't start the engine after a short while hear the relay click when they turn off properly) And in the same vain, your glow plugs could have all burnt out long ago and yet still get the dash lamp. The relay/timer has a temperature sensor, the colder it is the longer the plugs (and maybe the dash lamp) is ignited.... you might just be seeing a turn in the weather.

ah! probably the best way too!
Anyhow the thread has reminded me to add to the list of things to do that I need to figure why my dash bulb doesn't erm...glow... any more.

Could they also be called heater plugs??
They were the only things i could find online on paddocks lol

How to test ur glow plugs! Remove the wires from each plug, get a live wire and place it on each plug one at a time,if it sparks its ok,if it dont do oat its knackered! NICE N EASY 4 YA!!!!!
-
Ok, am guessing from that then that they fail as opposed to just deteriorate with time?
-
A glow plug can fail any time, some can just be slow to warm up. 2.5 plugs are crap anyway, the 200 ones are amazing, but you never need them!

For the sake of £25 i might as well get a set from paddocks and fit em to the 110, although next year its getting a 200tdi lol
