When i bought my 95 disco 1 (3dr) it had no rear silencer. Is this an MOT failure?
Also, is the rear silencer a seperate part or will i have to replace the mid section as well.
-
hi.not sure about the mot but you can replace just the back box.
-
Nice one. Previous owner said that it went though last MOT fine although he was an MOT tester :-k
-
Don't suppose his name was on the ticket? As long as it has been replaced by a pipe & It Is'nt much louder than normal I'd pass it. ;)
-
both mine and a mates discos have pased mot with no back box
-
I ditched my back box for a side exit conversion - passed the MOT since.

As long as the gases dont enter the driving compartment and it is no louder than 150 decebels with no sharp edges,is held securley ,it can not be failed!

150 - are you sure?
A whisper is about 20 dB. A normal conversation is typically from 60 to 70 dB, and a noisy factory from 90 to 100 dB. Loud thunder is approximately 110 dB, and 120 dB borders on the threshold of pain.

I do believe that there are no sound limits on diesels, although this could be a urban myth

I have a totally straight through pipe on mine - no probs with MOT and breathes a lot easier.
-
Both mine have straight through, loads better ,makes the turbo spin so much better!!!
-
My new forklift at work is 100db and it aint loud!!! Thats what all the stupid stickers stay that are slapped all over her!!!!
-
You don't need both silencers. Mine has no centre box, has passed numerous MOTs, and has a nice edge to the growl that makes windows rattle!
-
How about bumpers? Mine currently has no front or rear bumbers. Will I need to get some sorted to get it through the MOT? Planning to get a rear one soon but quite like the look of the front wthout one

I think you might need one to cover the projecting chassis ends, not 100% sure but I think they might fall foul of the regs relating to parts of the vehicle that might injure.
Besides which it'll look a lot better with one of those challenge-spec tapering winch bumpers on (even if you don't fit a winch) than it will with nothing at all!

I have a D1 and from the 1st box it is flexi pipe right throught to the rear bumper where I have a square tail pipe bolted to the bumper. No problem with MOT., I got my flexi 62mmID ???? from Parkers at Loughborough 6 foot length use approx 5foot 6" from 1st box to bumper
