Hiya
Ive got a 1996 300tdi 90 with 83000 on the clock. It has got a standard size Allisport intercooler, Straight though exhaust, and an ITG filter.
I did exactly the same 150 mile journey on Sunday with another 1997 defender with standard intercooler, exhaust and filter.
We sat at 65mph pretty much the entire way - I used 3/4 tank of diesel, and the other one used 1/2, but the other one has better performance, quicker and a better top speed. Neither 90's smoke.
Im thinking that mine needs to be tinkered with by someone who actually knows what they are doing - Fuel pump has been tweaked by many previous owners by hte look it, but i can get it flat as anything, or drinking fuel
Do you know of anyone that would be able to undertake such a task?
-
any diesel specialist should do it. or a local performance car tuner/rolling road or try allisport?? or even a local land rover specialist.
there are plenty of places about also if funds will allow get a re-map that should improve performance and fuel consumption

a 1996 300tdi remap means a man with a screwdriver!
Non ECU :)
-
sorry forgot about that as i have no defender yet and never been under bonnet of 300tdi i will remember that tho cheers

Didnt mean to sound rude!
thanks for trying - ill give allisport a call i think.

thats got no MPG

Could it be the "97" has a Disco transfer box?

Definately using too much fuel. I did about 200 or so miles this weekend ( about 150 on motorway/fast A roads and 50 on green lanes/minor roads) on 3/4 tank. I am using 2 stroke in the fuel which does seem to help MPG!

Mine has 285/75/16 special tracks and the other has 35/10.5/16 Simex ET, roughly the same tread / size.

The two things that kill your mpg are cold starting and keep on hitting the turbo!
-

How much do you add and in what sort of ratio, 1/2 ltr of two stroke to 50ltr of diesel?
-
Just been out this morning and results are not good :'(
Filled it up to one click on the pump, drove 30 miles, filled it up again at same pump.
30miles, 6.88 litres (1.5 gallon) = 20mpg

Can of petrol and match!

1 part 2 stroke to 200 parts diesel (about 1/4 litre per tank). See the post in the alternative fuels section.
