hi rob
wot sort of challenges are you thinking of doing?
wot sort of budget do you have?
do you want to build or buy a truck?

disco bobtail/truck if you already have the disco.

i reckon a nice 88" series 2a with a v8 would do ya proud

I'm waiting for a challenge spec Suzuki X90 to turn up. There have been a few modified examples in various magazines, sooner or later someone will try competing with one.
They're small, light, can use most Vitara chassis bits. The potential is there for a talented fabricator to turn one into a competitive truck.

90 truck cab or trayback.
99% of competitors can't be wrong.

this is true but they aint the cheapest vehicle
-
lol could it not be that
A) 99% of competitors have no imagination
B) 99% of competitors have no other skills other than turning a spanner
C) 99% of competitors could be considerd sheep?
i am a beliver of the masses cant be wrong but this is an acception as the 100" plus wheelbase vehicles have been winning alot lateley.
its like saying a landrover is the best off roader, but its not, it depends on the application.

A 90 might be more money to buy but most parts you'll need are cheap and easy to get hold of.
You could buy a 90 fit the parts you need and get out and compete in a short space of time.
If you want something different good on you i say, but it's going to take a lot of work.
What about a Suzuki sj

WAHEY... the can is open and the worms are everywhere...

An audi allroad gets my vote...

There are two good choices
100" chassis tube frame. More stable than a 90 under speed or steep desent or Suzuki sized body on strong axles.
Both have huge advantage in the field

I'd have thought that strength and light weight would be important in a succesful winch challenge truck, so I'm surprised no-one has used the 'Zuk before.

yes although it might need an SVA depending of how the space-frame and body is mounted to the chassis (crossmember and outriggers),
and yes it will definatly fit in a single garage ( a mate has a 88 inch whitbred space frame trialer in a single garage and thats got loads of room)

Why not a 4 wheel steer mog 404 and just not bother with the winches?

You'll still need winches, possibly even 3 of them to be competitive
Check out the Mitsimog for the proof.
