Title: which adhesive ???
Post by: wizard on December 24, 2009, 07:06:09
My sons disco has had all the rubber strips removed from the side of the vehcile, he has a set to go on but what adhesive is up to the job. I don't fancy buying 10 packs of araldite.
I can vaguely remember something like silcoflex or silfix that come in a large is tube for use in a mastic gun.
any ideas.

Tigerseal is probably about the easiest stuff to get hold of.

I used double side adhesive trim tape from a motor factor.

Been on 3 years without movement.

I tried the Tigerseal, useless for this job! I gave up in the end and left it off.

Buy some 3M body side moulding tape, it's black D/S tape and far better than the stuff halfrauds sell.  Also apply it hot, so not in this weather.  Apply it to clean panels and let it stick before trying to pull it off, the longer it stays the better it's stuck.

Yes that's true, it's easier on the Ali panels or a LR than steel panels, they tend to cool down too quickly.  Hopever if you get the stuff stuck on even to a cold panel, heating it up will then make it stick better.

As a last resort you can also use masking tape for a few days untill the glue gets stronger.
