is anyone watching
-
It's on but the Little Guy is too busy playing with everything Santa brought him and I can't hear the telly. We're recording it though.
The comments about Clarkson's RR caused me to fall about laughing. RRB, his missus and I have 4 between us and 3 of them are off the road at the moment.
-
Yep, I was watching and I've decided on my ideal truck for the same route...
300 TDI Disco with 245/70 R16s, winch, spotlights and a load of bashplates!
-
wouldn't frist gear low range and diff lock been better for going down that hill?
-
Not in the sand, you sometimes need more power available to you to accelerate if tyhe tyres start to dig.
Been there in the sahara in a series 3
-
What a laugh again, what a job they have. Brilliant
-
enjoyed that no end. good old rangy
-
spot on ...again , good old clarkson he dont care who he insults :D :D :D
The Fj looked the nuts with the mods......shame they never done em properly
-
MINT..
What a job :D and you get paid to do it aswell...
-
one of their best so far  hope they do another one soon. shame the land cruiser rolled  as it look good on them rims
-
Another excellent show. Had me grinning and laughing out loud all the way through. Apart from the road of death which seemed the only genuinely scary part of it especially where Jeremy passes on the outside  Shame about the usual staged parts like the <ahem> gorge that they probably could of all easily driven through had they wanted to but it was still a laugh to watch.
Is there some kind of online application form to join the team [-o<
-
Very entertaining :afro:

No way were the producers going to let anyone try to drive it down there in 2WD and no clutch. That would have been the end of the Hamster. Hence the staged accident.
-
:D When the barge came into view, and i saw the cars, I knew the winner then :D :D Had to be the green oval :D :D I have two, so would be disapointed!! Series and a rangie !! Good show and good laugh!!
-
was nice to see the green ovel come through but shame it was not hammond in one !
-
Well lets hear it for the Zuk............
Bog standard and made it all the way.
-
Well done for the zuki.
Any one else shudder at the useage of the winches.
Nice yota too, shame about the rrc ;)
-
Excellent show..
-
Was a good show i agree they could of easlier have got over that lil ditch lol......Brilliant show tho
-
Err it was all staged....
if you think it was a real test you seriously should stick to WWF....
-
Really? Your kidding??? The didn't send 3 TV presenters in scrap 4x4's over the top of the bolivia without training, oxygen, and little more than roll cages and winches on reciever hitches?
Na that wasn't staged, that's REAL men!!
-
Does anybody have a recording they can burn to a disk?
I am in Aberdeen for a couple of weeks - I will happily pay if I can get it to take home with me.

Yes I notice that. Still, can't beat a Rangie.
2 words to add, Darien Gap ;)

I wonder how many times the rangie was fixed but they never showed it! The holes cut in the bonnet would not have kept it cool enough... It was an OK show and the offroading looked fun but Topgear is becoming too staged, too fake, you could almost see the production pushing the Toyota down hill at the end!

can you not download it from iplayer to disk and burn it? In linux I'm using get_iplayer proggie to grab the standard flash version.
get_iplayer --modes flashstd1 --get 605
It's about ~270mb size in fair quality.
or
get_iplayer --modes flashvhigh --get 605
for a ~840Mb flash file of pretty good quality.
-
Either way, it's on BBC2 again now...........
-
get YouTube FLV Downloader its free then just go to the web site and it will download it from bbc iplayer and then u got it

I was one of the first to post a reply on this thread, then watched the recording back later when my son had gone to bed. I spent the whole programme wondering just how many support vehicles they had out of camera. They had no luggage - there was a shot of something yellow in the boot of Clarkson's RR and the other two had nothing with them - I have seen RRB take a boot full of recovery kit just for a day around North Notts. On one shot where the Hamster was catching the other two up, you could see the support car in the dust cloud behind his 'Donkey'. Still very entertaining, though - it's amazing just how much hammer those trucks took and still came back for more.
-
you just have to let yourself belive its true when watching top gear, and not worry about the realities
must be the best job in the world though
-
it's just an entertaining show - if they wanted they could produce it in such a way where it would be less obvious that it was staged but they do not - by design it is made blatant. Maybe it's so that we can all go 'well yeah derr' to the wannabie whistler blower in the pub or net forums.
Wannabe Whistle blower moment...That one where James May is in that caravan airship it was all staged! The police copter was a fake and rented for the show as per script, James may wasn't alone in the aircraft as a professional flew during difficult manoeuvres, there was no emergency in airport airspace - it did crash but under controlled conditions and so on - but it was still fun it was to watch.
Good that they make rangerover win. Maybe if clarkson had been kinder to Rover Group it might still exist along with other british car companies (not they really deserve it).
-
Totally agree with u.. they still good fun watch either way

Seriously, its a tv show admittedly i love it but its got as much foundation in the real world as the tooth fairy. Its entertainment and an excuse for clarkson et al to have a bloody great time get paid a bloody fortune at licence payers expense and i want his job. Do you really think the bbc would let him hand his a*se off that sheer drop!! insurance and h&s men would have blown a gasket.Good of him to b*gger off and leave hamster and slow to their own devices thats what us good rangey drivers do the best ha ha. If you had just bought a bugatti veyron would you try to blow it up on a race track.........i think not! Give me their jobs,id even do it for less.

get YouTube FLV Downloader its free then just go to the web site and it will download it from bbc iplayer and then u got it
Will that work with Player?
-
Can someone explain to me how the Rangie is supposed to be the most unreliable car in the world? Clarkson clearly never drove my Renault 11.....
-
If it was not staged that must be one of the best back village 4x4 spares shop to have full roll cages for a range rover, land crusier and sj. plus springs shocks extended brake lines etc.
Still great fun to watch.

wasn't that good a spare shop they didn't have extended extreme angle props
-
The BBC make millions from that show each series selling it across the world, thats how they afford it :D
-
Missed it, can anyone provide a link? Got no telly, ya see.
-

You can't really blame Clarkson for that. BMC/BL/Rover destroyed themselves by churning out nasty vehicles that nobody wanted and taking profits from models that sold (like the Rangie) to prop up other parts of the business. It damn near killed LR too - think about all the canned projects like the diesel V8. Because their profits were being used to fund loss-making vehicular disasters they were effectively fighting the Japanese 4x4 manufacturers with both hands tied. Clarkson and the rest of the motoring press merely pointed out that there were better cars for the money.
I'd love an SD1 Vitesse or a Jag XJS, but only after they'd been professionally restored to turn them into the cars their designers intended rather than the fault-ridden horrors the assembly lines produced!

fake as in it was not a police copter on duty, was hired and not attending an emergency.
The newspaper quotes went along the lines of The show’s producers had got airport clearance to stage the scene while a private helicopter firm provided the "police" chopper.
Steve O'Brian, Chief Pilot at Sterling helicopters, who supplied the 999 helicopter said the balloon was delivered to the airport on the back of a truck.

At parents house. Just watched this on BBC i-player.
Yeh, very good, and yeh, staged.
Good fun though!
Would've been better if they'd had a Porshe Cayenne, Audi Allroad, and Merc M-Class, and bringing up the rear, a Range Rover Classic, (as per the VW Beetle, in the South African Challenge), to show how banal those Chelsea Tractors are.
I'm off to watch it again, Cheers.
-
Although it was fun, I thought the North Pole one was better.
It's obviously all staged, but it is just entertainment. I very much doubt (hope) the production team expect anyone to think otherwise.

Arctic one seemed genuinely more extreme. Maybe if they had all used 2CV's in the jungle...
