what I normaly do to get them of is get the center horn/cap of with a screwdriver then take of the nut, then proper lean on the wheel from side to side pushing and puling. not turning it but jigling it with force it should give and start to pull free of the splines. I think on some of them ther is a thread hole for you to screw a bolt into that will push the wheel of the splines as you screw the bolt in.

also before you change you may like to know the new wheel might not have the tab on it that makes the indictiors switch of automatic when you turn.

When you undo the nut holding steering wheel on leave it on the thread a couple of turns, gives enough room to free it from the splines but stops it smacking you in the face when it comes off!
