Title: Hello, Newbie from Worcestershire and Help Needed (which Landy)
Post by: nickcrabbe on January 02, 2010, 12:25:32
Hi,
I'm new to all this and don't yet have a 4x4 but am looking to buy in the next month. It's to be used mainly for timber collection and transport in and out of woodland. What should I be looking for? One chap I know recomended a Landrover Defender 90 200tdi '93-'94 model. Any other ideas, must be reliable and relatively easy to fix with parts easily available. Comfort not too important.
Any help very greatly appreciated.
Nick

If your going to be in and out of woodlands all day I'd go for a 90/110 preferably with a tdi engine A disco is a very comfortable car an just as capable offroad as a 90. (unless your planning any extreme Pay and play driving. But it's more susceptible to panel damage which can be difficult and expensive to repair. Unlike a 90/110 where all the panels are easily replaced and on which Dents don't look out of place anyway.

Hello and welcome.

What's your budget?

You might be better off with a 110 there's not much room in a 90

cheers Mark

Budget is anywhere between £1,500 and £4,000. I'm very unlilely to use it for greenlaning or competetive stuff so it's realy just a reliable workhorse I'm looking for that will also be useful when it snows etc.
Cheers

Series3/90/Defender Truck cab!

Totally at home in the woods, pile the back up with logs, drop into low box and let it pull itself back out.

If you don't have to take it onto the road, then definately a series 3. Cheap as chips to buy and totally reliable.
