Got in the Disco today, turned the key and it wouldn't move, thought steering lock, but it's not! steering wheel moves fine! tried again and snapped the bloody key off in the barrel!
Have got the key out of the barrel (thank god!!) and now got a new key cut (haven't got a spare set!! but have now!)
Question is, whats causing this? it's been playing up a couple of times where it wouldn't turn easily, is the barrel knackered?? are they easy to replace if needs be???
Cheers
Jim

Not an import no, at least not that I'm aware of! V5 etc doesn't say anything.
It's just a normal 300tdi manual with Air Con

I've been having the same problem with my '94 V8i :(
The key goes in - and it won't turn - haven't snapped it off yet :)
I just take it out - swear at it and try again until it turns - took 5 minutes this morning - nearly froze my toes :'(
I expect that I'll have to replace the barrel etc - another job to add to the ever growing list

Try dry graphite powder lock lubricant, normally comes in a little puffer type bottle.

i had to replace mine, got a complete unit with steering lock from paddock or around £30. think the hardest bit was removing the cowl around it!

got 2 new keys cut, after a struggle it now works, but only with one of the keys??!
still seems a little stiff though, think a new barrel might be on the cards......
