right, ive posted here about my seized disco and had a few pointers. nothing conclusive, so heres what actually happened- was driving down to edinburgh for work, got about halfway doing 70-ish , when there was quite a rumbling noise coming from the engine, this lasted about 30 seconds before it went bang and cut out. i had to coast from the right hand lane across to the shoulder. got stopped safely, tried turning it over, just went click. so got a mate who was a mechanic once(apparently!!), he said it was seized, so got him to tow me to edinburgh. later discovered the guy who sold it to me had disconnected the oil pressure sensor. so, i am wondering, if theres low oil pressure(or maybe high?) what are the engine components that are most likely to be damaged and cause a seize?

it sounds terminal to me.
low or no oil pressure will result in all moving mechanical parts welding them self together.it would be easier and more cost effective to replace it with a second hand unit.even if the crank has not welded its self to the big ends the rocker gear will be toast and and the pistons will have been picked up {swelled and seized in the bore} sorry for the bad news.
if you want i will come over and have a quick look just to confirm this for you.

aah a local! having a quick look would be much appreciated, i dont have any of it stripped but i did have an oil change, filters etc done a week or two before it seized. any help is greatly appreciated

As above, pistons will be scrapped and gouged if not seized, bores will be ugly and the crank could well be scratched even if it didn't "pick up" a shell or 2 (welds itself to the bearing liners).
The camshaft might have survived, depending how long it's been running without oil.
Given that it's had a problem for a while your best bet is to re-home a soild TDi from a terminal rust case.
