I have an R reg 300 TDI and the dipped lights only work when they want to. The side lights and the main beams work fine all the time. When the dipped lights fail, the dim-dipped does n't work and put the lights to 1/6 power, they just turn off leaving the side lights on. Does it sound like a problem with the dim-dipped control unit, or a loose power supply, and if so where should I start looking?
Many thanks in advance

I've had this problem twice over the years. 1st time was the indicator stalk contacts burnt and the second was the light switch (small stalk) plastic had melted and contacts dropped back causing open circuit.
Neither are cheap however, do not buy pattern parts for these items, you will regret it .
Further invest required.... Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Have cleaned the earth but still not working. Can I remove the dim-dipped feature? If so where do I find this on my model? Is it around the steering column?

From experience my first stop would be the stubby light switch on the column - had 4 give up over the years....
Mind you seems unlikely that sidelights would continue to work, but you never know.
Dim dip relay on the td5 is pink and up behind the RH speaker, would think 300 would be the same - they have been known to fail. I'd guess you could cut it out of the circuit, but I suspect just replacing it would be simplest to avoid the brain ache of working out the revised wiring needed.....
Good luck, A
