Title: V8 missing
Post by: Dave on January 10, 2010, 21:04:21
Can anyone help my mate has a V8 Disco 52plate it keeps misfiring. Fault code says missing on cylinders and will clear but comes back. So were thinking it the coil pack it seems to disappear down the back of the engine.
Can anyone think of anything easier to try first and also how is best to replace the coil pack what do we have to do?

Thanks in advance

Coil packs should just be unplug and unbolt, once you find them.  I think they sit in the valley at the back to keep them warm and dry.

I take it you have tried new plugs and leads?

Hello Andrew been told that because its showing a fault it will not be the plugs  :-k and he should be trying the leads today. He has said that the coil pack go's down the back of the engine and looks a nightmare to get at, any tips for this.
Fault says that 3,4,5 cylinders then comes up multi cylinders fault.

sounds like the coil packs to me.my v8 had the same problem.

the plenum chamber/inlet manifold will need to come off to get to them.

the packs are around the £80 mark from landrover, and you will need to get a new inlet manifold gasket, about £20 from landrover.

whole job about 3hrs.

Hi Dave, yeap what he said, the coil packs are hidden from view by the plenum and EFi stuff.  A lazy afternoon's work if nothing goes wrong.
