Title: Suspension lift kit
Post by: denzil on January 14, 2010, 21:25:13
I have seen a 2in lift kit for a disco complete with cranked arms made by Britpart in a land rover mag, heard and read so much about this company ,does anyone have any experience of these kits ?.

i fitted a full kit from britpart on the works 300tdi and the rear cranked trailing arm snapped at the weld after only 1.5hr of driving .called britpart and they said what do you want us to do .we are britpart agents and use thousands of pounds worth of there stuff every month and with this being one of our very own trucks we were fuming  it took a few phone calls to get it sorted out but we removed the full kit and sent it back to them on warranty.[!Expletive Deleted!]

I used some Britpart rear springs and they sagged by 30mm in 12 months. Changed to Bearmach and had no problems in 2 years. I would recommend Bearmach parts over Britpart just on appearance alone. They look better made.  :D

Dont bother mate everything i've had that has had the britpart badge on has been crap!

It lasts its warranty and then dies.

: alternator just over a year old smashed to pieces
: track rod end rubbers split in 7 months
: wheel bearings gone in 8 months
: hub bearing locking washers that dont fit so u have to file them all down.

All cheap and not so chearfull!

Sadly u get what u pay for thats why they're cheap.

Cheers TEMP

Check out Devon 4x4's website. Simon is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to mods.

have you looked at the genuine spring rates for the Discovery and see if they do a HD set? my 90 runs standard rears on the front and HD rears on the back which gives approx' 1" of lift. it might be worth a look and see what is available for the Disco, the genuine springs were only about £30 each and the insurance company are informed it is a HD set up and not a modification...

why do you feel you need a 2" lift on your Disco? what's wrong with the current setup?

Procomp shocks work well but a ,ot of us find the top part of the piston will rust after a while, I think it's not helped by stone chips but if you fit the optional boots then they cause as much trouble because they fill up with muck.  I've started to cut the boots in half so they only cover the top of the piston and are open at the bottom.

For the same money you can also fit DeCarbon, they are good.

when you say top of the piston, is that where it enters the chamber or the end with the bush for fitting??

The chassis end if you like, gets very little use.
