as i am reaching 45 (cough) this year i believe i have to renew my class1
do the dvla contact me or do i have to chase them
then what happens
its not that i use it that often but i would like tyo keep it
-
DVLA will contact you.. or should do.. have a look here (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/NeedANewOrUpdatedLicence/DG_4022087)

If this is the case then take a copy of it before you send anything off ;) more and more cases are cropping up that the DVLA lose your paper work and then deny that you ever passed your test and then make you take the test again

You will need to have a HGV medical at 45 and then every 5 years. just had mine (50) £80 but your company should pay. It's about 6 pages but they'll send it to you (dvla)

alot of companies wont pay for your medical. it isn't down to them. its nice if they do, but a condition of getting the job is having the licence, a condition of keeping the job would be to retain the licence...

it looks like I will be due a medical before I am allowed behind the wheel of a class 1 (sorry c+e). I am 27 and had my license over a year and still nobody will let me loose in one.

its getting like that everywhere..ive had my class one since `98 and im still considered a "young un"!

:-k have u not tried The Local Firm`s James ? Northampton has a nice selection of big boys to play with
-
I have tried a few firms that I know has in house driving schools so has young drivers like eddie stobart, tesco, dhl etc and none want to know. All the agencies say I have to have held my license for 2 years. Doesnt matter I wont have been in a lorry since my test but holding my license for 2 years meens I have experience. Work that 1 out!
-
On a similar note, I took my cat 'c' in Oct 2007 and have only used it for three days casual work. No experience, but I've had it over 2 years  Got a digi tacho card too, never used that either!!
-
how long have you had your class 2? getting a job with a firm that has both 1s and 2s and then covering overtime etc on class 1s occasionally is a good way of getting your foot in the door.
have yo looked at anglianwater? I know theyve got a class 2 driver at one of our sites who`s had his class 2 for all of 5 minutes and proves this by regularly smashing into things yet they dont do anything about the useless sod!
-
James, go and register with the agencies anyway. Even if they tell you they can't employ you with less than 2 years, all you need is a busy weekend for someone to give you a chance, and if you don't muck it up, they'll keep calling.
-
Drove an artic for the first time today since passing my test 8 months ago. Been driving ridgeds since I started driving. Includeing a 25T extended tractor unit for recovery work. With a bit of luck, now that I have been out in it I might get to drive it a lot more.

Tried signing on with them and they refuse to let me have the paperwork. the 1 agency I am with has near enough folded. :-(
-
Yes it was nice to be out in one.
Try what I did. Print out lots of copies of your CV, and go around to lorry firms handing them out. Worked for me :)
