You could always fit a overdrive or a transfer box from a Discovery 1
My 300tdi is happy at 70mph and will be getting a overdrive in the next few months

Just put Disco High Range gears in your T/box.  A re-map will help with the higher gearing.

The mere thought of cruising at 80 mph on a set of Colway Annacondas makes me scared.  Rather you than me.

Disoc transfer box is the way to go.

Only thing I'd say is that having fitted 235/85s to Blue it styruggles to pull in top cog, if I'm towing or against a head wind then forget it, the gearing is too tall.

I would go with the disco transfer box as mentioned.

My Td5 has a GKN overdrive, when it was working I really liked it but this is the second one its had. The first lasted 60K and 7 years, the one on it now is only 2 years and around 10,000 miles old. It gave up on me a few weeks ago.

It left me with no reverse gears and was slipping in forward gears. They cost around £1000, if you can get one Vs the disco transfer box at anything from £50-£400.
I now have 2 very expensive paper weights!

I put a 1.2 disco transfer box in my 200tdi 90 and It was loads better at speeds between 60-70.
It was nice having the option to keep the standard gearing then use the overdrive for speeds over 60 but I don't want parts fitted to my defender that are are so tempermental and could leave you with no drive.

Maybe I'm a bit of a plodder on the m-ways?, but I tend to stick at about 50MPH when I'm out in the 110*

If I need to get somewhere quicker, I'll take the Volvo estate, or the XKR

*Or is it just that I'm being parsimonious??
