We are currently looking for a 3 wheel push chair and noticed that the prices of these things is significantly cheaper in the US. Like $129 instead of £250 or so!?!
So, what are the likely extra costs/problems if we order from the US?
Rather annoyingly, a friend is currently in Florida
-
Import Duty and VAT
The only other option is to get your friends to bring it back in, but if the nice people at the airport question it, they will get hit for the duty and quite likely a fine for tax evasion / smuggling / some other thing

Also you have to consider the safty side of things, has been built to EU standards. or some sweat-shop in Mexico.

Unfortunately, they're not contactable
They are a family with a child the same age as one of ours - which would be a suitable age for the push chair in question. All you need to do is remove all packaging (dump it in hotel bin!) and use it, get a few sweets squashed into it, etc - and they'll have no reason to question

Valid point... although the US legislation tends to be even more anal than European legislation.

The particular model we are looking for is also sold here in the UK (exact same model), so it should be fine.
