right guys, bit thick i know, but does diesel go stale? :? got over half a tank in the 200 but its been in there for 10 months, if it dont im gonna stick it in the td5
-
diesel does not go off so if i were you id chuck it in the td5. petrol starts to lose its octains after about 3 weeks and smells like varnish after about 6 months at this point you will strugle starting a petrol
-
cheers mate, exactly what i wanted to hear
-
diesel should be fine, but would petrol still go off if it were sealed in a tank though?
-
if theres no air in the tank it wont go off but if theres a tiny bit of air it goes off you can tell with the smell its like a varnish/ nail varnish remover it stinks. plus insted of being clear it goes like a cloudy colour.

deisel can get a bacterial bug iff its left a long time, more common on marine engines . alan..
-
while we are on the subject a pal of mine said that I can add my old engine oil a bit at a time to my diesle tank and burn it of, is this ok??
-
well it tasted like diesel :->! got about £60 worth and there is probably a bit left in the old girl yet
-
Bio deisel goes off. If you store a petrol car you can get additives to prevent the fuel going off/protect the tank.

I started a cat d1 about 2 years ago which hadn't been run for many many many years. Had half a tank of diesel in it, so got the donkey engine running on fresh petrol, swung the main engine over and bang, bit of smoke but she was running.
Diesel will keep for years (at least 20 ;) )

well the td5 hasnt missed a beat on it! wahoo!

that is weird as I use my petrol Genny only about twice a year for summer off-roading trips and yet it starts and runs with the fuel left in from the previous year no problem, I heard it goes off but not that quickly surly? Also fill the mowers tank from the 10 gallon metal can that has stood since September in the shed every year.

gennys will run on old fuel as they arnt really a tuned engine a big range classic 8v will fun on old fuel but like a modern petol engine does not like fuel if it in old they dont like staring on it
also sometimes helps if u run the carb dry on gennys they start good then

a diesel engine will run on any lite oil used engine oil veg oil wen it gets a bit warmer but most things realy i run mine on any thing cheap or free lol be carefull with td5 good thing direct injection with 200/300 tdi
