Good question....can't help as i'm in the same position as yourself so looking forward to see what the lads come up with.
Been looking at steering guards myself but havent found many for the disco 2 LOADS for the disco 1.
Good luck in your quest

same. found loads of bits for the disco 1 but not much for the 2. Seen a few on ebay but seeming as i dont know much about them i didnt buy.
-
I'm also in the same position  Seen a couple of steering gaurds but the price has scared me. I'm also hearing of horror stories about the front recovery point shearing off under light loads so am wanting to find some thing better

at the minuit is seems that disco 2's are still in the bracket of "if you can afford to buy the car you must have loads of money to buy toys for it so we will charge you a fortune!" there are bits out there for them but you will have to look hard for bargains.

I used to have loads of money till i bought the disco 2
Unfortunately that seems to be the case and the prices are much higher.
I did see a steering guard on Ebay for £55 + £10 p&p, item number 170434153747
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/landrover-discovery-2-steering-gaurd_W0QQitemZ170434153747QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item27aeaacd13
It looks fairly good, what does everyone think?
There was another one for £63.25 + £7.95 p&p iitem number 150394360696
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Discovery-2-Td5-V8-Steering-Guard-In-Silver_W0QQitemZ150394360696QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item230433d378
Might invest unless someobne tells me they are rubbish.

before deciding between the two if i were you i would contact the supplier of the more expensive guard to find out how thick the thick the front plate is, you want minimum 5mm steel or 8mm aluminium.
-
it says the frist one in brians post is 5mm steel. is that no good?
"made from 5mm thick steel.
the main plate is powder coated silver and the fixing brackets are powder coated black.
surplied with all nuts & bolts.
weight; 12kg." - taken off advert
THanks

I would recommend QT diff guards/slider. Have you thought about heavy duty steering bars or do you also need built-in recovery points?

5mm steel will be fine, imo the side plates don't look to be the most substantial .

it would be nice to have the points free.
