Title: my highlifts finaly let me down
Post by: william127 on February 03, 2010, 19:56:36
after a year of using my highlift for whinching, lifting and pulling iv found a job that s beyond it- dragging an (empty) ready mix lorry sideways  obviously its way above the highlifts rated capacity, but we were hoping the mud under the wheels would let it slide.
shame it didnt work, as we had to knock down a bit of wall to let it slide out

There's an old trick from the days of smaller car ferries. Lots of very soapy water and a tree trunk. The soap allows the trailer wheels to slide on the deck, the trunk acts as a guide rail. Only way to get artics into the side alleys (where there was enough headroom, but not enough space to let the trailer straighten up as normal).

i was working on the theory that i was able to move a trooper sideways on mud using just my weight/strength, the highlift should be able to move the lorry. i think it didnt work because the bit the lorry was on wasnt muddy enough- the very reason we had it backed in there

its quite a good area to work in at the moment as its so muddy our massey ferguson 35 needed towing out with my 110
