Is it just me or does it seem like there is a bit of a witch hunt underway on there recals? I mean i know i'm a Land rover nut? but i always have admired Toyota's and would Aways recommend them over land rover products. (to non land rover nuts) just seems they are getting a shed load of bad press at the moment? :-.

Daily mail stirring up a storm in a teacup. Not like there's ever been a recall or two before....
-
They have a problem and are dealing with it ... They cant do anymore than they have . .....................Narrow minded people .........

Anyone who wants to see how the media reports this sort of thing needs to watch Charlie Brooker's "Newswipe". Very funny and with a serious point about how manipulative the mass media are!
The Daily Wail has a long history of scaring people for no reason other than to manipulate them...

Is that why the bobble hat brigade read it then

Well, if they believe their own propaganda they're not going to ask awkward questions about that alleged newspaper, such as who owns it, why do they choose to print certain things, etc...
I'm neither left nor right politically, I just get really fed up when people swallow an editorial line without thinking for themselves. Every media outlet has an agenda these days and the only way to get the real facts is to compare several sources and consider their motivation.

I felt sorry for the CEO of Toyota UK who was being interviewed on BBC Breakfast the other morning. It was plain to see that Suzanna Reid (might let her off  ) didn't understand what he was saying. When he was saying the ABS setting is a bit aggressive for some drivers and it may need a bit of software tweaking, she kept saying the "brakes won't work then?". He repeatedly told her that they would work, it was just the ABS setting. But she simply couldn't grasp it. Bill Turnbull didn't seem to understand much better either.
Of course, it doesn't help when the same model has just been recalled for another fault. The press just love it, don't they?

The hole thing is a joke there must be dozons of recalls from diffrent manufactures, nobody said anything to peugeot about the 307 model when the ABS pump wiring set the car on fire

I don't come on here often after moving to the US, but it's apparent that the UK news media
isn't quite as aggressive as the US media.
Perhaps you didn't know that following a move from cable to electronic throttle by Toyota for
the 2002 model year, runaway vehicles increased by 400%. Since then, more than 2000 wrecks
and 21 fatalities have been attributed to sudden unintended acceleration by Toyotas.
So, Toyota have known about it since reports started coming in 2002 and they do a recall in
2009. There are several class action lawsuits and they're being investigated by the NHTSA.
The only reason they are saying sorry is because CNN and FOX are like rabid dogs and have
chased them up about it.
The Prius recall is down to ex-Apple boss Steve Wozniak, who told CNN after getting the run
around from Toyota following his complaint about the brakes.
The NHTSA is investigating whether the sudden acceleration issue is down to electromagnetic
interference rather than a dodgy accelerator pedal. Industry experts say that this is much
more likely to be the problem. If it is, the deaths will continue...

There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion.

as a landrover driver who is often hiit over the head with toyota ecxellent reliability this story makes me smile everytime it comes on the radio or whereever :D

Interesting comment form Tim.
Whilst the US car market is fiercely patriotic (unlike the UK) and the opportunity to bash imports is too great to miss, the quote still makes for itersteing reading, although 400% cold be 4 instead of 1.
Id say Toyota are looking at a very black patch indeed,

it is a shame as Honda are also having problems, but the reporters have not got on there backs too long,
had to be done sorry
