Not been on here for a while but need advice...
I have a 1989 pre production 200tdi Discovery...
BUT.
it needs a floor, rear cross member, sills .door bottoms are crunchy ..etc
do I strip it and buy another new one..(but I only have £1000)
OR
Do I chuk £1000 at it and keep it ..I can't decide :-k

as long as its mechanically sound, if you can weld id personally do the floor and crossmember. box section the sills and grab some decent doors off another one.
it'll be off the road til you can do it all but once its done its done. what more could possibly rust [-o< haha
there isnt many for a grand out there that dont need welding tbh. well thats my experiences anyways.
mines had everything welded on it and its as solid as a rock now!
-
spend the grand on it, as it's pre prod it is valuable so save it from the scrapper.
-
fix it! or give it to me lol
-
yer fix it its a pre prod aret many about
where did you find it whats its numbers i may be able to find something about it for you
-
I say fix it, but as it's a pre production then you really should do it as close as possible to original spec (eg cut out rot in the sills and let in steel plate, rather than cutting out the entire sill and welding in some 5mm thick box section as you might otherwise do).
If Bluebird K7 can be put back together then there's hope for any Disco!

I have decided to save the old girl.....
unfortunately it's gonna be a big job.. :(
here she is(http://www.mud-club.com/gallery/galleryimages/1237986622-1745-PICT0012b.JPG)
as you can see I have already modded it a little so theres no point going back to standard...one sill is allready box section so the other will be soon..
I've just ordered a new rear cross member and I will be using sheet to do the floor as I get it for free.. I know 5 of the 10 body mounts are gone so they will be the first job and I may throw in a body lift while I have the bolts out..
as for the pre prod bit .. it was sold on the day the discovery was launched with 600 miles on the clock. the bonet release is on the wrong side and the vin says it's a range rover :-k but I have the full history on paper..

Well I have a new rear cross member arriving thursday..
£138 inc delivery.. :D I shall report when it arrives... ;)
