Hi,
i ordered a winch bumper for my 90 from a well known midlands based firm 22 days ago..i was promised it would be here last tuesday..yet it still hasnt turned up...is it me or does that seem like a long time to get an order out?
-
Give them a call.
Could be a number of reasons and speaking to them would be better than hypothesizing.
-
could be one of many places, but most get there bumppers from the same people but badged under different names. they are quite busy at the moment. give them a bell and chase it up.
-
ive tried ringing and will again..but i have er....a habit of cutting of my nose to spite my face when it comes to issues like this..
having never bought a winch bumper before i was hoping someone would say that 3 weeks is a normal build time
-
it depends if they have any in stock, what orders they have and how many people they have working. the metal has to be cut, folded, welded, ground and prepped for powder coating, powder coated, checked for fit, packaged and shipped to the middle man and then it has to be shipped from where you bought it from to you. it could already be on its way... just over 9 months, well thats how long it took mine to arrive. (not the same company as you though)
-
I dont know which company you are talking about but, if its not in stock and ready to go how can they offer it for sale ?
If it was me i would be phoning after a week.
wizard

I agree with wizard. It is annoyingly shoddy than online stores advertising stuff they haven't got unless they make it known ideally at the point of sale that something is out of stock with x amount of delay. If I am paying for something to be produced per order then I expect to be made aware of that fact and a realistic time scale to be provided.

It should only take an hour or so to build one, this one took about an hour....

Unfortunately it did break when he fitted the actual winch, he is going to use metal for the next attempt....

Well, I rang them today and was told that it had just come back from paint last night but the finish wasn't up to standard and he would be sending it back to be sorted out...I thought this was an unlikely story, especially as id been told on the 3rd of Feb it'd be here for the 9th..and when i reminded them of this the fella got a bit funny on the phone and his attitude changed..so I asked for my money back! Which he really didn't like! 2 more phone calls and almost 7 and a half hours later I got my money back! Basically, I gave a firm my money to look after for the best part of a month!
I'm still miffed how any firm can sell a product that they haven't got a build time advertised....oh well, guess id better get looking for something else to spend my hard earned on...
-
Build times are a nebulous concept...in theory it should take X time ...factor in supply issues for components, less than perfect builds and suddenly it takes longer...its a tough line between customer satisfaction and cash flow....
-
At the end of the day... If you aint got it you can't sell it !!!

What complicates the issue is that many things like this will be built in batch, it's uneconomic to make one aat a time if things like the laser cutter have to be programmed and any jigs set up etc.
Think yourselves lucky, the ACO O.C. ordered some back panels for the MkI Escort about 10 years ago, rumour has it they might get made this summer!
