Classic issue I know but I'm looking for a rust killer thats easy to use and will act as a primer as well to paint on.
Any opinions/reviews on this stuff?

Best way is an angle grinder.

As Paul is suggesting, there are no 'rust killers' as such. You can slow the process, but you can't kill it. The only way to get rid of rust is cut it out and replace with fresh metal.
The likes of Hammerite work on the principal of excluding oxygen so there can't be any oxidisation. That's about as close as you get to stopping rust, but impurities in the metal can still create it.

Leave it in vinegar over night. Big bottle from tescos of cheap malt is about 20p.
-
Deep joy...can you fit a 4x4 in a 20p bottle of vinegar...???
-
Not but you can get a tank which will hold a bulk head and fill it with vinegar for a lot less than using other methods.

Is that why my chips dont get rusty before I eat them? I have heard the vinegar thing before actually but I there are loads of things out there that claim to convert rust into useable metal although it does not work miracles. As soon as I get my car back from the menders "AGAIN!" I will be painting the axles and chassis with some "RUSTOLEUM" stuff from work (mates rates) It's primer contains fish oil to further prevent rust and the top coat will be bright orange  YAY. The paint is very tough and flexible. If anyone wants anymore info then go to www.rustoleum.com. It's available from all KENT BLAXILL stores. P.s if you see a KB 13 ton lorry with blank curtains going from Colchester to Ipswich, Woodbridge, Norwich, Bury St Eds, Sudbury, Braintree and back to Colchester then give me a wave I WILL be bored.

That rustoleum looks the same kinda stuff right?
I know its not Perfect but real world here.
Anyone recommend any brands?
-
The guys in the paint department recommended rustoleum to me but they did also say the most brands of marine paint are a safe bet too like TEAMAC. I also read in a recent landy mag that Neutrarust is a good converter and they also do a primer. Hammerite also do a converter that you can just paint straight over. I painted my old discovery axles with hammerite gloss and they stood the test of time. If you would like me to send you some leaflets on some of the stuff out there just pm me and I will see what I can do for you.

Thanks for the offer James but I need to decide and order some fairly quickly, Neutrarust looks good and can be painted over although they try to sell there own primer of course! I may go for this.
They do all work on the same reaction but must vary in quality, Iv used jenolite and Kurust before and it worked ok but I felt it wasn't that strong or fast drying.

It is a real tough one to call. Took me ages to decide what I wanted to do. Good luck with it and please let me know what you decided and what the end result is.

Well I found a bottle of this stuff
http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=8293&frostProductName=Granville%20Rust%20Converter%20(250ml)
in our garage and it was voted the best on a mini forum so Iv slapped some on today and will see how it goes!
Im still contemplating one which has zinc too for extra protection but is more pricey

Hamerite is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Back when it was Finnegan's they made a No.! primer that was better, you could paint an cast iron manifold with it it was that tough (ask me how I know).
Dinnetrol was supposed to be good too, though I think they make waxes more than primers.
If I was into painting axles I might be visiting a marine chandlers to see what they use on boats.
